Ultrasonic wind speed and direction sensor

Ultrasonic wind speed and direction sensors (hereafter referred to as ultrasonic wind sensors) primarily consist of an ultrasonic probe and a central processing unit. The core measurement principle is based on the ultrasonic time-of-flight difference method: the probe alternately transmits and receives ultrasonic pulses and precisely measures the minute time difference during propagation along downwind and upwind paths. When wind flows in a particular direction, the speed of sound increases along the downwind direction, resulting in shorter transmission time, whereas it decreases upwind, leading to longer transmission time. By computing this time difference and incorporating ultrasonic speed compensation algorithms, the processing unit accurately determines and outputs real-time wind speed and direction.
